Live music · for couples wanting something specificThe day, scored on purpose.

Classically trained piano for the ceremony, a piano-and-guitar duo for the cocktail hour, both back-to-back if you want continuous live music, and (when it fits) a full band for the evening. Not a default — a choice.

Who this is for

This isn't a default upsell.

Live music isn't right for every wedding. Plenty of couples want a playlist through the venue's PA and that's the right call — fewer moving parts, less staging, more dancing.

The reason this page exists is for the other group: couples who care about how the day sounds as much as how it looks. Maybe the aisle moment matters and you want it played, not streamed. Maybe the cocktail hour is the soul of your day and you want it scored properly. Maybe you actively don't want a standard wedding band, and you want something with character instead.

Family-run note · Live wedding music here is led by our daughter, Mia (Miabella). Booking through Shine Pics keeps the photography, videography and music team coordinated as one — same day-of contact, same timeline, one invoice.

The four options

Four ways music can show up on the day.

Pick one slot, combine two, or take the whole arc. Each tier is honest about who it fits and who it doesn't — we'd rather you booked the right one than the biggest one.

01
Ceremony · piano-led

Aisle, vows, register.

£300· Solo set

Mia is a Grade 8 classically trained pianist. The ceremony tier is exactly what that suggests — calm, intentional playing for the aisle entrance, the vows, the signing of the register and the recessional.

Choose your processional and recessional pieces; we'll suggest options for in-between if you'd rather not micromanage every minute.

Fits: civil ceremonies (City Hall, registry offices), church ceremonies that allow live music, and humanist services where the music is part of the script. Doesn't fit: venues without a piano or keyboard-suitable space, or services that pipe in a recorded processional.

02
Cocktail hour · duo

Drinks, mingling, portraits.

£450· Duo · 1–2 hr

Piano and guitar, played live for the hour or two between the ceremony and the wedding breakfast. Atmospheric — warm enough to fill the room, quiet enough that guests can still talk over it.

Repertoire skews acoustic with the option to lean modern: standards if you want safe, indie/alt-rock arrangements if you want a hint of what the evening could be.

Fits: drinks receptions in any function room, outdoor cocktail hours (weather permitting), and the gap between ceremony and dinner where most weddings default to a Spotify playlist. Doesn't fit: very short turnarounds where guests barely sit, or venues with rigid sound limits.

03
Ceremony + cocktail · combined

Continuous music, aisle to drinks.

By quote· Solo + Duo

The most common combination. Solo piano for the ceremony, duo (piano + guitar) for the cocktail hour — a continuous live presence from the moment you walk in to the moment you sit down.

Booked as one engagement, one timeline, one setup. We coordinate around your photography slot so the music never accidentally competes with the speeches or family portraits.

Fits: couples who want a single coherent feel for the whole front-half of the day. Bundled pricing: tailored to your timings — usually a small saving on booking the two slots separately.

04
Evening · full band

A proper gig, not a function set.

By quote· Booked via Miabella

Mia's other project — Miabella — is a full live band that plays alternative weddings: rock, grunge, metal-leaning, with classical piano interludes. It's a proper headline set, not the standard function-band rotation of generic crowd-pleasers.

This tier is the most polarising of the four. Most wedding evenings don't want this, and that's fine. The couples who do want it actively want it — usually because their non-wedding life sounds like this anyway and they want one night that reflects who they actually are.

Fits: alternative weddings, music-led couples, venues with proper PA and stage. Doesn't fit: traditional reception structures or venues with strict noise limits. Booked separately: evening band pricing and contracts are handled by Miabella directly — we'll route you over.

The artist

Mia, then Miabella.

Classically trained, alternative by instinct — the same musician across all four tiers, just in different formats.

Mia (Grade 8 classical piano, Grade 8 rock & pop guitar) is the constant across the ceremony, cocktail and combined tiers. For the evening band tier, she fronts Miabella — a Belfast-based act that grew out of years of wedding gigging.

If you're considering the band tier, the Miabella site has the full picture: live videos, repertoire, the alternative-wedding philosophy, and the booking flow.

Quiet practicalities

The bits most couples forget to ask.

Travel, setup, sound and timings — answered up front so we don't have to email about them three weeks before the day.

01

Travel

Across Northern Ireland from the Ards Peninsula. Travel within 20 miles of Portaferry is included — anywhere further, we'll quote a flat per-mile rate up front.

02

Setup

Solo and duo sets need ~30 minutes to set up, a power socket within reach, and a flat indoor surface. Evening band setup is handled separately via Miabella.

03

Sound

Self-contained PA for solo and duo — no venue equipment required. Volume is managed live; we pull back during photos and speeches so we don't compete with the moment.

04

Timings

Same coordination as photography — we book around your ceremony and cocktail-hour slots so it integrates with the rest of the day instead of running alongside it.
